We were at the Democratic Party's booth and met lots of good people. We passed out business cards and some candy to many kids.
On Saturday I woke up early and drove to Toulon,Il. Their town festival, Old Settlers Days, was sponsoring a 5k walk/run at 8:00 a.m. I signed up, paid the entry fee and then proceeded to the back of the pack for the start. I told myself to pace and just try to finish as it has been about 20 years since I have run a race. A respected former professor of mine, Jim Nowlan, was probably smiling when he called out my time at the 2 mile mark! Well, best to say I did walk about 2 blocks but did finish running through the finish line.
Certainly not reminiscent of my glory days but time marches on.
I knew a few runners and chatted with them. Also passed out some campaign cards and met more people after the race. Thanks to Jim Nowlan for doing an interview for the Stark County News and also to the organizers of the festival.
This weekend I will be in two parades. The first is in Hanna City at 10:00 Saturday. After that I will move onto Brimfield's parade at noon. Both parades are in Peoria County. Hope to see you at one of these parades.
Take care, Bob Sheehan.

Celebrate Democracy: Register and Vote

Very soon we will be celebrating our Independence from the British Crown, officially declared on July 4, 1776. What we celebrate is not something long ago or far way,but something here and now that must be renewed daily. You only have to walk as far as your American Legion or VFW in order to meet someone who has laid his life on the line for the freedoms we enjoy. We have established a process in this country that allows everyone to participate in our government, at all levels.
The very least you can do to participate is register to vote:
and make sure you vote on election day.

If Thomas Jefferson or Paul Revere failed to show upat a crucial point in history, we might never have broken the bonds of monarchy, and would not be here celebrating the birth of an independent nation.Without our continued efforts, "liberty and justice for all" will not be a reality.

During my 14 years in elected office, I have worked to include my neighbors in the process of government in Knox County and the City of Galesburg, where I live. This year, I seek to cast my net more widely, throughout the 37th District of Illinois in my bid for a seat in the State Senate. My first priority will remain the same as it always has been: to encouragethe participation of every individual, to the fullest extent possible, in the wonderful experiment called Democracy that we celebrate each year.

I am prepared to listen to what you have to say, and have the experience necessary to represent you when the Illinois Senate convenes in Springfield next year. In the coming months I will be working hard throughout the 37th District of Illinois to bring out the vote, and I look forward to your help.

Bob Sheehan
Candidate for Illinois State Senate
